Oh man, just wrote a whole post and was about to schedule it to go live when I realized I’d basically done the Winter Trek post all over again. Didn’t realize I’d already done it. It’s been a minute, I know, but I do have a few outings worth of things to show you even though I haven’t been actively shooting. I’d have been a huge dope to not go out on this perfect winter day though. Look at it!!!

I knew I’d have to move fast though because it was going to get above freezing and that fresh blanket wouldn’t last long. Not a cloud in the sky so it was a bit contrasty, but it’s still so amazing to be out in it. I kept stopping to take it all in.
Check out this bendy branch tunnel, hope you can make out the small snow-covered bridge at the end of it. I tried a bunch of other compositions, but this one works best – that tangle was amazing.

Speaking of bendy trees. Sat down in the snow and leaned to get this.

Right next to me was this little scene. I love the way the heat wraps around trees and makes these little pockets –

There were a bunch of trees bent under their loads of snow and since it was windy, they made fun scrapes and scratches in the snow underneath. It was another thing that disappeared as the temperature rose. As I said in my last post, I was trying to find the things that winter gives us that are unique to that season and this definitely qualifies.

Oh look, another bendy tree –

That time in another direction over this nameless brook that I’ve photographed a lot, but never this particular section. It has a bridge over it for snowmobile and ATV traffic so I often just sort of overlook it for some reason. I also overlook small scenes that intrigue me, but that I think won’t work as photographs. This time I decided to give some a try and I quite like how this Yellow birch turned out. The snow on all those roots clinging to the shoreline made for interesting geometry even though the light was hard to deal with. I love the snow clinging to the curly bark, too.

So I wandered closer to where the calmest parts of the brook were frozen over. By this time, snow and ice pellets were dropping all over and making a fun pattering sound all the while I shot.

Bendy branches. Eek am I predictable or what?

Well that’s it for now. Things are continuing slow for me, but I haven’t stopped completely. Just don’t shoot enough to have a weekly post, that’s for sure. Ebb and flow. Life eh?
